She currently chairs Hospitén private hospital group, and since last June, the Institute for Development and Integration of Health (IDIS), which has burst in the sector with the aim of representing the private health and promoted to reach the place it deserves in the health system. On Tuesday the news again host a Day that brings together all the health sector and in which will put at stake the value of private medicine and the role it can play in maintaining the sustainability of the system.
"It is now six months after the official launch of the Institute for Development and Integration of Health (IDIS) How do you became an initiative of this kind?
"I belong to the private health sector for 40 years and have always been aware that one of the unfinished business was to pool the efforts of all members of the Health. From the Canary Islands, where I chair the Group Hospitén, had long been circling the idea that had private health to pool their efforts, because the links that were created so far were not enough. Moreover, from Madrid, Juan Abarca Cidón also had in mind an initiative of this nature. Under this scenario, was born on IDIS, officially launched on June 9 in order to value the contribution of private health and the health system to provide this sector of institutional representation in line with reality in a collaborative and complementarity with public health.
- And, from their point of view, how should the relationship between public health and private?
-Private healthcare has undergone a significant change in this country over the past 20 years. This is essential to disseminate and to download directly to public health an important part of the needs of users. The figures show: we represent 30 percent of total health, we add the 2.51 of the GDP of our country and offer of around 350,000 jobs. Therefore, we must bear in mind that in reality there is only one medicine and one patient, both for the public sector and the private, and that the most important are the health outcomes. Therefore, it is necessary change the concept that until now has been attributed to the Private Health, regarding it as dual public and returned to the society that both are complementary systems that must coexist perfectly to ensure the best care to the citizens. IDIS Since we will work to ensure that public and private health begin to make plans together.
- What can balance its short but intense journey so far? How do you perceive the host of IDIS in the health sector?
"Really, it is very important and only union not at private hospitals but also insurance companies and service provision, and we are pleasantly surprised by the impact it has had over the months spent living and the visibility and acceptance that we are having. This obviously encourages us to keep fighting because there is still a long way to go.
"In Spain there are other experiences of groups dedicated to the Private Healthcare, for example, the English Federation of Private Clinics, ... could explain some of its differences from the IDIS?
"We created IDIS as a school but, in fact, is a foundation whose primary mission is to highlight and disseminate the benefits of private health. Among its aims, the Institute aims at developing health programs for other sectors of society through the promotion of information activities for the population and promoting research in all health areas. We will also deal with the teaching, research, development, ... With this concept of beginning, we had an enthusiasm than we thought at first, both by insurers, hospitals, as well as medical institutions, pharmaceutical ... and the general public. On the other hand, is the Federation of Private Clinics that should not be confused with our project because the Federation is the employer, and that has to discuss a number of things that do not belong to IDIS. They are two completely different things, but this does not mean that they can be complementary, but we do not enter in the day to day operations of all hospitals, conventions, etc. We must have a Federation of Clinical strong and well established, and on the other hand, the IDIS Foundation and strong and also well established.
- Last week were received by the secretary general of Health, José Martínez Olmos Is there understanding with the central government?
-The meeting was positive. Representatives of the Public Health understands that our relations have to be changing every day and that collaboration between both sectors has to be increasing. In general terms, and after the meetings we have had so far, I note that the expenditure of the Ministry of Health are changing. However, at the present time it is difficult to approach because there is no budget for anything, even, will be reduced, therefore, what we have now is an approach, no more facts than the concerts and waiting lists. We are aware that the process is long.
- What do you think of recent recommendations from the EU launched the Member States, including most notably in their health systems rely more on the private sector?
"They certainly very positive recommendations for our sector. To prove once again that there are serious funding problems and, therefore, the use of private sector seems to me a good recommendation and we must applaud. We know that the journey will not be very fast but it will remain positive as you progress. Gradually, you must understand that the use of the private sector is good and also not expensive, but quite the opposite.
- Really, you do not get to the citizen's private health having to pay this in addition to the public?
"Precisely, one of the purposes of IDIS going to fight for the city assigned to the Private Health has no disadvantages to the user of Public Health, which, on the other hand, is downloading of an expense.
- What does an agency such as the possible IDIS Muface extinction in the future, probably not too far away, following the decisions being taken by the Executive in respect of the Mutual?

Therefore, politicians should agree on a deal that works for all and sustainable. IDIS has organized this conference at Hotel Hesperia Madrid, which will analyze the role that private health plays in the sustainability of the NHS. Its main objective is to learn what the different actors of healthcare fabric of our country about the contribution of private health to the sustainability of national health system and analyze issues as the desirability of encouraging the promotion of private insurance to help download economically to the public system or the need to strive for greater integration of private health care planning in the population, thus avoiding duplication in resource consumption and waste of those private health care can bring.
