"It has made health one of the best political tools" Interview with Dr. Peter

The College of Physicians of Salamanca has interviewed Dr. Juan Abarca, President and CEO of Group Hospital Madrid for publication "medical Salamanca ". Through this interview, stop to consider some specific aspects of our health.

Why the taboo nature, mainly from the political sphere to the private healthcare? Because

has made health one of the best political tools.

Will follow up the current model or both public and private will have to change the formula?

I think private health care is essentially a bottomless pit, otherwise hospitals would have to close because they are not protected by the "father" state.

hospital Their concept is somewhat revolutionary, why?

As participatory ownership of the hospitals that comprise the different health groups, physicians, insurers, investors, etc., Which, in defending their own interest from government bodies to ensure the other's ethics, quality care and profitability. How

five hospitals are able to maintain high-level what this means?

Being surrounded by a team of excellent professionals and managers with an absolute dedication recognized by a highly regarded and led by capable people like my family.

"Private healthcare is as profitable as it seems?

In private health we know we must win the patient every day, because profitability is not very high due to the unequal competition.

Do you believe in coexistence public health and private?

is essential, because both should be complementary. Decalogue

a hospital:

1 .- The property will be equitable among the various components of society, so that each defending their own and different interests, others ensure the quality of care.

2 .- It will feature the internationally approved quality certificate and the technical and human resources to deal with any process safety and comfort.

3 .- Do not accept offers that insufficient force to re-purchase materials or of dubious quality.

4 .- You will be ready to function effectively for 24 hours a day. 5 .-

medical and surgical emergency door are experienced specialists.

6 .- The medical management will be highly experienced professionals in specialties such as anesthesiologists, surgeons and intensivists. The doctor will have full-time.

7 .- "day hospital" will be located as close as possible to the ICU, which have natural light, and operating rooms.

8 .- The hospital is governed by rules accepted by all. Teaching and research will be their motivation. Solidarity is an obligation.

10 .- The shareholders and management to ensure a free, independent and Transparent, so you can publish medical findings and annual statistics. The case centers will always rest in a general hospital.

Randiana? Documentary on WikiLeaks

"The attractive aspect of Christmas is the fact that the good wishes expressed in a cheerful, happy and benign, with no expression of sacrifice. One says:" Merry Christmas "instead of" Llora and repent. "And the expressions of the predictions are given in a material, earthly through gifts to friends, or sending them cards in token of remembrance and affection.

The best thing about Christmas is the issue openly condemned by the mystics: the fact that Christmas has been commercialized. -bought gifts stimulate an enormous outpouring of ingenuity in the creation of these products, assigned to a single purpose: to give pleasure to men. The street decorations erected by the department stores and other institutions, Christmas trees, twinkling lights, bright colors, provide the city with a spectacular display, which only "commercial greed 'could afford to give. One would have to be terribly depressed to resist the joy of this wonderful show. "
Ayn Rand, December 1976.

I hope you all spend a happy Christmas pagan and commercial. Salud!

Luis Cobiella, president of IDIS

" The IDIS (Institute for Development and Integration of Health) will fight for that the city attached to the Health Private not have disadvantages for the user to the public health "

IDIS president graduated in Medicine and Surgery and a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology. belongs to the private health sector for 40 years. She currently chairs Hospitén private hospital group, and since last June, the Institute for Development and Integration of Health (IDIS), which has burst in the sector with the aim of representing the private health and promoted to reach the place it deserves in the health system. On Tuesday the news again host a Day that brings together all the health sector and in which will put at stake the value of private medicine and the role it can play in maintaining the sustainability of the system.

"It is now six months after the official launch of the Institute for Development and Integration of Health (IDIS) How do you became an initiative of this kind?

"I belong to the private health sector for 40 years and have always been aware that one of the unfinished business was to pool the efforts of all members of the Health. From the Canary Islands, where I chair the Group Hospitén, had long been circling the idea that had private health to pool their efforts, because the links that were created so far were not enough. Moreover, from Madrid, Juan Abarca Cidón also had in mind an initiative of this nature. Under this scenario, was born on IDIS, officially launched on June 9 in order to value the contribution of private health and the health system to provide this sector of institutional representation in line with reality in a collaborative and complementarity with public health.

- And, from their point of view, how should the relationship between public health and private?

-Private healthcare has undergone a significant change in this country over the past 20 years. This is essential to disseminate and to download directly to public health an important part of the needs of users. The figures show: we represent 30 percent of total health, we add the 2.51 of the GDP of our country and offer of around 350,000 jobs. Therefore, we must bear in mind that in reality there is only one medicine and one patient, both for the public sector and the private, and that the most important are the health outcomes. Therefore, it is necessary change the concept that until now has been attributed to the Private Health, regarding it as dual public and returned to the society that both are complementary systems that must coexist perfectly to ensure the best care to the citizens. IDIS Since we will work to ensure that public and private health begin to make plans together.

- What can balance its short but intense journey so far? How do you perceive the host of IDIS in the health sector?

"Really, it is very important and only union not at private hospitals but also insurance companies and service provision, and we are pleasantly surprised by the impact it has had over the months spent living and the visibility and acceptance that we are having. This obviously encourages us to keep fighting because there is still a long way to go.

"In Spain there are other experiences of groups dedicated to the Private Healthcare, for example, the English Federation of Private Clinics, ... could explain some of its differences from the IDIS?

"We created IDIS as a school but, in fact, is a foundation whose primary mission is to highlight and disseminate the benefits of private health. Among its aims, the Institute aims at developing health programs for other sectors of society through the promotion of information activities for the population and promoting research in all health areas. We will also deal with the teaching, research, development, ... With this concept of beginning, we had an enthusiasm than we thought at first, both by insurers, hospitals, as well as medical institutions, pharmaceutical ... and the general public. On the other hand, is the Federation of Private Clinics that should not be confused with our project because the Federation is the employer, and that has to discuss a number of things that do not belong to IDIS. They are two completely different things, but this does not mean that they can be complementary, but we do not enter in the day to day operations of all hospitals, conventions, etc. We must have a Federation of Clinical strong and well established, and on the other hand, the IDIS Foundation and strong and also well established.

- Last week were received by the secretary general of Health, José Martínez Olmos Is there understanding with the central government?

-The meeting was positive. Representatives of the Public Health understands that our relations have to be changing every day and that collaboration between both sectors has to be increasing. In general terms, and after the meetings we have had so far, I note that the expenditure of the Ministry of Health are changing. However, at the present time it is difficult to approach because there is no budget for anything, even, will be reduced, therefore, what we have now is an approach, no more facts than the concerts and waiting lists. We are aware that the process is long.

- What do you think of recent recommendations from the EU launched the Member States, including most notably in their health systems rely more on the private sector?

"They certainly very positive recommendations for our sector. To prove once again that there are serious funding problems and, therefore, the use of private sector seems to me a good recommendation and we must applaud. We know that the journey will not be very fast but it will remain positive as you progress. Gradually, you must understand that the use of the private sector is good and also not expensive, but quite the opposite.

- Really, you do not get to the citizen's private health having to pay this in addition to the public?

"Precisely, one of the purposes of IDIS going to fight for the city assigned to the Private Health has no disadvantages to the user of Public Health, which, on the other hand, is downloading of an expense.

- What does an agency such as the possible IDIS Muface extinction in the future, probably not too far away, following the decisions being taken by the Executive in respect of the Mutual?

"No doubt a great loss to the Private Health. Of the approximately 10 million citizens who are currently beneficiaries of private health in Spain, two million are civil servants, who receive health coverage through three mutual funds, including Muface also of ISFAS and MUGEJU.

-IDIS has organized for Tuesday, a day that will bring together representatives from across the health sector to address the issues of sustainability and the role it can play the Private Health, ...

-free healthcare is unsustainable, hence the need for political consensus and a new positioning in the health sector both public and private. Therefore, politicians should agree on a deal that works for all and sustainable. IDIS has organized this conference at Hotel Hesperia Madrid, which will analyze the role that private health plays in the sustainability of the NHS. Its main objective is to learn what the different actors of healthcare fabric of our country about the contribution of private health to the sustainability of national health system and analyze issues as the desirability of encouraging the promotion of private insurance to help download economically to the public system or the need to strive for greater integration of private health care planning in the population, thus avoiding duplication in resource consumption and waste of those private health care can bring.

"It's about attitude. What kind of attitude you have towards society? Do you see what is and accept Him as divine, or see society as something where you identify a problem and then find a creative solution to this problem? The question is: how are participating actively in society. "
