"The private hospitals have no doubt, capacity and infrastructure to undertake research with the highest quality standards," said Juan Abarca Cidón.
The Secretary of the Institute for Development and Integration of Health (IDIS) was speaking following the announcement that 122 schools have participated in private sanitarian our country in a total of 434 clinical trials between 2004 and 2010.
Madrid (11/03/1918) .- The experts agree that clinical research is a cornerstone in the R & D pharmaceutical and provides the link between basic research and patient care. Part of this work is developed from the privately owned health centers. In fact, 122 of these centers in our country have participated in a total of 434 clinical trials between March 3, 2004 and June 30, 2010, being 651 the number global interests in those tests by the private health sector. This follows from the results for the ninth publication of the BEST Project BDMetrics1 Clinical Drug Investigation, developed by the English Technological Platform on Innovative Medicines Farmaindustria.
As for the distribution phase of the studies, it should be noted that clinical research conducted by public and private schools is parallel and almost coincident in both cases noting that about 25 percent of the studies are consistent with early stages clinical development (phases I and II mainly), 64% with stage III and the rest with stage IV.
It is important to note that the distribution of trials in the ranking of the top ten therapeutic areas of interest and under investigation in both cases correspond to those that pose a significant challenge both from a scientific standpoint and from social approach towards the achievement of new drugs to treat diseases of solving processes and not yet adequately addressed, as are the areas of oncology, cardiovascular, neuroscience, anti-infectives, Respiratory, Hematology, Rheumatology, Endocrinology, Immunology and Pain and Anesthesia. BEST
The project also reveals that 89.9 percent of patients initially planned research projects implemented by private hospitals are included in the studies and the median recruitment rate is 2.14 patients per month. Thus, the total number of patients enrolled in the 651 units of private schools is 4,311 trials.
"All these data break myths and put back again to the need to place the private health in a line with their actual activity also in the field of research in our country," said Juan Abarca Cidón, Secretary of the Institute for Development and Integration of Health (IDIS), while a resounding notes that "private health care centers certainly have the capacity and infrastructure to undertake research with the highest standards of quality."
